The Central Meteorological Department has informed that isolated places in the state are likely to experience thundershowers and strong winds. Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts are likely to experience rain and wind gusts of up to 40 km per hour.
Yellow alert has been declared in Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts today. Yellow alert will be in place tomorrow in Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts and on Tuesday in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
There is also a warning that there is a possibility of high waves. The National Center for Oceanography and Oceanography (INCOIS) has informed that till 11.30 tonight, there is a possibility of wave height of 1.8 to 2.7 meters and storm surge and wave speed is likely to vary between 45 cm and 65 cm per second. Therefore, the State Disaster Management Authority has informed that fishermen and coastal residents should be cautious.
