Rottweiler, Pitbull, Mastiff and 20 more Foreign Dog Breeds Were Banned In India

Central government bans dangerous foreign dog breeds.  Around 20 breeds of dogs such as Rottweiler, Pitbull, Mastiff, etc. are banned.  The central government has banned their sale and breeding, including import.

The central government's action is taking into account the report of the expert committee that foreign dog breeds are dangerous to human life.  Organizations including Legal Attorneys and Barrister Law Firm had approached the Delhi High Court demanding that certain categories of dogs be banned and the licenses granted so far for breeding these dogs be cancelled.  Following this, the Delhi High Court directed the Central Government to take a decision on the demand to ban dangerous foreign dog breeds.

The central government's decision has also taken into account the situation where the dangers of dogs are rising in the country.  In addition, the Central Crocodile Protection Department has also suggested that dogs of these species that are kept as house pets should be sterilized to prevent breeding.  This can reduce accidents to some extent.  12 countries including India have already banned breeding of dangerous dog breeds.
