Renowned film director and cinematographer Shaji N Karun (73) passed away. He passed away at his residence 'Piravi' on Udara Shiromani Road, Vazhuthakkad at around 5 pm. He is the state president of the Progressive Kala Sahitya Sangham and the chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. Wife: Anasuya Warrier. Children: Appu Karun, Karun Anil.
The funeral will be held at Shantikavadam, Thekkad at 4 pm on Tuesday. The body will be kept for public viewing at Vazhuthakkad Kala Bhavan from 10 am to 12 noon and then taken to his residence.
Shaji N Karun was presented with the J.C. Daniel Award by the state government last year a few days ago. He also participated in the protests that erupted when the Sangh Parivar attacked the movie Empuran.
