Ministry of Commerce and Industry instructs e-commerce companies to remove all beverages including Bonvita from health drinks category.
The directive came after an inquiry by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights found that the sugar content in Bonvita was above the acceptable limit. The National Commission for Child Rights had earlier demanded strict action against companies that do not comply with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India standards. The commission also pointed out that health drinks have not been defined as per the rules of the Food Safety Authority.
Recently, there have been allegations that Bonvita contains excessive amounts of sugar and that colored drinks are harmful to children's health.
