Counting of votes for West Bengal local elections has started. Trinamool Congress is ahead in the first results. Trinamool is leading in 256 wards. Widespread violence took place in Bengal during the elections. 9 people were killed in the conflict. TMC, BJP, CPM and Congress workers were killed. As the parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in 2024, the panchayat elections in Bengal have many political dimensions.
Five Trinamal Congress workers and one independent each from the BJP, Congress and CPM parties were killed. Many activists were injured in the widespread attack. Ballot boxes were destroyed in two polling booths. Bombardment and firing took place in many places. There were also reports of attempts to abduct voters in some places.
