Elon Musk, the CEO of leading electric car maker Tesla, who postponed his visit to India citing the company's activities in the United States, made a surprise visit to China. China is Tesla's biggest market after the US.
It was earlier thought that Musk would arrive in India on April 21 or 22 and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ending the wait, Musk was also expected to announce Tesla's entry into the Indian market and the opening of a factory in India.
However, Musk postponed his visit to India, citing Tesla's busy schedule. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that he has made an unexpected visit to China.
Musk has big goals in China
It is known that Musk will meet with the top officials of the Chinese government in Beijing, the capital of China. He may seek government approval for the introduction of full self-driving software (FSD) in China and the overseas use of consumer data collected in China.
FSD or Autopilot is the self-driving system of cars. It was introduced four years ago in its home country, the United States, but was not introduced to its second largest market, China.
